Make GIFs, clips, time-lapses and contact sheets

Capture & export makes a GIF, a clip, a time-lapse, a burst of screenshots or a contact sheet from the video, and it lets you draw on a screenshot. Open the widget's Tools tab and find Capture & export. It needs a connected account, like the screenshot.

Everything is made on your device and saved as a download. Nothing is uploaded.

What you can make

ButtonWhat you get
GIF · next 5 sA looping GIF of the next 3, 5, 10 or 15 seconds, 320, 480 or 640 px wide
● Record clipA clip with picture and sound, as WebM. Press ■ Stop clip to end it
Time-lapse 4xThe video at 2x, 4x, 8x or 16x, picture only, as WebM
Burst every 5 sA screenshot every 2, 5, 10 or 30 seconds while the video plays, up to 100
Contact sheet 3×33 × 3 or 4 × 4 frames from across the whole video, each with its time, as one PNG
AnnotateA screenshot you draw on

The numbers on the buttons follow your choices in Settings. A clip and a time-lapse stop by themselves after 10 minutes, or when the video ends.

When a burst is on, the button shows how many shots it has. Save them with Save … as ZIP (the button shows the count), which gives a ZIP of PNGs, or Save as sheet, which puts them on one image.

Annotate a screenshot

  1. Press Annotate. The Annotate screenshot panel opens on the current frame.
  2. Pick a tool: Arrow, Box, Highlight, Text or Pen.
  3. Pick a color: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue or White.
  4. Drag on the picture to draw. With Text, click, type, then press Enter.
  5. Press Save PNG to download it, or Copy to put it on the clipboard.

Ctrl + Z undoes the last mark. Escape closes the panel.

Capture settings

Settings, Video Features tab, Capture & export sets the GIF length, the GIF width, the Time-lapse speed, how often a burst fires (Burst every) and the Contact sheet size. Reset capture settings puts the defaults back.

When it does not work

Protected video, such as Netflix and Disney+, cannot be captured, and some other sites do not allow their frames to be saved. The widget tells you which it is. A contact sheet needs a video with a known length, so it does not work on a live stream. A paused video cannot be captured, so press play first.

Shortcuts

Three optional shortcuts start with no key: "Record or stop a clip", "Make a GIF" and "Annotate a screenshot". Each needs a connected account. Set them up in Change a shortcut.
